Bridge Mix

Hello friends,

The Delinquent Theatre gang is hard at work crafting their contribution to Itsazoo Theatre’s Bridge Mix.  Bridge Mix is a multimedia site-specific show that takes place in a parking garage.  9 companies contribute a 10 minute piece, and the result of this collaboration is a 90 minute promenade show that starts at the bottom level and works its way up to the roof.

Composer and Musical Director Mishelle Cuttler hard at work

We’ve been big fans of Itsazoo for their innovative and politically charged work, and are so happy they invited us to contribute to Bridge Mix.  Our piece is entitled “Parked: An Indie Rock Musical with Novelty Instruments”.  Delinquent Theatre Company member Christine Quintana has assembled a team of talented young musicians, singers, and actors to create this musical.  So far, our orchestra includes a ukulele, kazoo, trombone, human beatbox, and glockenspiel – and we’ve only just begun.  We look forward to sharing our musical with you – Bridge Mix starts on June 9th!

Seeking Performers!

Delinquent Theatre is seeking a few talented musician/singers for a site-specific project in June of 2011.  Here’s the info:

YOU: Musican and singer.  We’re looking for musicians who own their own instruments – instruments must be relatively portable and acoustic. If you have one main instrument and play many more, let us know!  We are looking for confident singers who are comfortable singing alone or in groups, and can learn music quickly.  The rehearsal process will be short but intense in the month of May, so positive, quick learners with a reasonably open schedule are welcome.

THE GIG:  ITSAZOO Theatre’s Bridge Mix, running June 9 to the 25th downtown.  It’s an exciting site specific evening, now in its second year.  For more information, check out http://www.itsazoo.org.  This is Delinquent Theatre’s entry into Bridge Mix.

TO APPLY:  Send your headshot and resume to Christine at delinquenttheatre@gmail.com, along with all instruments you play (whether you own them or not).  Please let me know what other commitments you have for May and June when submitting.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

Wanna Party Like a Delinquent?

This could be you!

Delinquent Alumni Laura McLean director of Dog Sees God and Spring Awakening, presents Party This Weekend, a unique site-specific theatre event. Think Tony and Tina’s wedding, if instead of a wedding it’s an awkward “surprise” party for a reluctant 25-year-old birthday girl who completed her masters only to wind up living back at her parent’s house working as a barista.

Our Time and Alumni News

Delinquent Theatre is excited to present Our Time, a new one act play by Christine Quintana directed by Brendan Albano and starring Pippa Mackie (all Delinquent Alums), and welcoming newcomer Hersie Nina-Init to the team as Stage Manager.  We hope you will come see this exciting and moving new work. Our Time will play February 17-20th at the Dorothy Somerset Studio at UBC – check out our ‘Upcoming’ page for details!

We are also incredibly proud of our Delinquent Theatre alumnus Nikohl Boosheri – Delinquent audiences may remember her as Marci in Dog Sees God at the Havana.  Nikohl stars in “Circumstance”, the feature film drama that took home the Audience Choice Award for Drama at the Sundance Film Festival and was picked up for distribution by Participant Films.  We are so proud of you Nikohl!

The Return of the Delinquents

An image from Our Time, coming up in February 2011

Hello Delinquents,

It’s been a while since we’ve updated our followers. Following the sold out run of Spring Awakening at the Havana Theatre, the Delinquent gang hit the Vancouver International Fringe Festival and joined Fighting Chance Productions for their production of Dog Sees God which became the 2009 Pick of the Fringe. We’ve been busy with school and other projects, but are excited to return with a production of our own Christine Quintana’s new script, Our Time. Featuring Delinquent alum Pippa Mackie (Spring Awakening) and directed by our resident evil artsy genius Brendan Albano, this exciting new work will be playing at the Dorothy Somerset Studio at our alma mater, UBC. Check out the ‘Upcoming’ page for more info on Our Time and stay tuned. We hope you missed us as much as we missed you!
